Zagreb East Side
Knows as a haven for immigrants since the nineteenth century, the East end of Zagreb occupies a special interest in Croatia and those familiar with it's culture.
Today it offers the tourists a look in the vast array of culture, history and modern innovation.
During the WWII East Side was decimated by bombings. Never a region to say die, the area was built up and restored and has transformed itself into a unique blend of new immigrants, new development and new art types for those who choose to call the place home.
Any trip east should start in Sesvete, less than 3 miles away from Zagreb center, Sesvete has served as the first outpost in defensive line during the Ottoman wars but today is home to many people who settled here from Bosnia and Herzegovina. You can buy food and fabrics from street vendors or just enjoy the sights and smells. Sesvete walls also serve as canvas for one of the best graffiti artists.
East part of Zagreb is the part of the city that has seen some amazing development in the last 20 years. Warehouses are being torn down to be replaced with commercial houses, travel and rental companies, luxury flats and upscale shopping.
Dubrava is the epicenter of East Side and houses Zagreb tower, the tallest building in all of Croatia. Dubrava also provides world class shopping in the form of beautiful shopping mall and water front shops.
Loads of new development are in the works so in few years it is expected that the most businesses will be moving in that area.
Dubrava is also home to some of Zagreb's best clubs and a great place to start is the 93 saloon. A converted brewery features everything you come to expect from a major club including some of the best food in Zagreb. On weekends you can swing by for a barbecue at the outdoor courtyard. They also host a wide variety of media events including film screening, music launches and literary events.
